Lovely Lips

I love bright lips -especially in Spring and Summer! I told myself this year I would invest in some new shades and great news -according to Pat McGrath Everyone SHOULD have four lipsticks they love and just mix them—it’s like having 400 lipsticks." So this justifies me having to buy some new lipsticks ... right?

Some Shore Relaxation

As promised on Monday this weekend I am r-e-l-a-x-i-n-g; and by relaxing I mean spending both days at the beach! Sunday we are celebrating the 23rd birthday of one of my dearest friends and business partner - Melanie - in the form of a beach picnic at Ju Ju's. I mean what could be better than spending the day at a beach with the greatest friends (yes in the world), yummy nibbles and do I dare mention rumpunch! Rain...you better not show your ugly face this weekend!

Lovely Love

We all know a cup of Jo...and I am sure it is daily read for many...but I just had to record this article letter she shared last week on my little space.

It was written in 1958 by the famous author John Steinbeck. Steinbeck received a letter from his son Tom stating how he had fallen madly in love with a girl at his boarding school named Susan. Steinbeck wrote bck to his son that very day and this is what he said:

New York
November 10, 1958
Dear Thom:

We had your letter this morning. I will answer it from my point of view and of course Elaine will from hers.

First -- if you are in love -- that's a good thing -- that's about the best thing that can happen to anyone. Don't let anyone make it small or light to you.

Second -- There are several kinds of love. One is a selfish, mean, grasping, egotistical thing which uses love for self-importance. This is the ugly and crippling kind. The other is an outpouring of everything good in you -- of kindness and consideration and respect -- not only the social respect of manners but the greater respect which is recognition of another person as unique and valuable. The first kind can make you sick and small and weak but the second can release in you strength, and courage and goodness and even wisdom you didn't know you had.

You say this is not puppy love. If you feel so deeply -- of course it isn't puppy love.

But I don't think you were asking me what you feel. You know better than anyone. What you wanted me to help you with is what to do about it -- and that I can tell you.

Glory in it for one thing and be very glad and grateful for it.

The object of love is the best and most beautiful. Try to live up to it.

If you love someone -- there is no possible harm in saying so -- only you must remember that some people are very shy and sometimes the saying must take that shyness into consideration.

Girls have a way of knowing or feeling what you feel, but they usually like to hear it also.

It sometimes happens that what you feel is not returned for one reason or another -- but that does not make your feeling less valuable and good.

Lastly, I know your feeling because I have it and I'm glad you have it.

We will be glad to meet Susan. She will be very welcome. But Elaine will make all such arrangements because that is her province and she will be very glad to. She knows about love too and maybe she can give you more help than I can.

And don't worry about losing. If it is right, it happens -- The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away.

Love,

Is this not completely and utterly beautiful.

Spring to Life

“She turned to the sunlight  and shook her yellow head, and whispered to her neighbor: winter is dead.” A.A Milne (When We Where Young).

Yes, today marks the official day of Spring...although not too much changes here on the little rock there is still a feeling of new projects and plans to start. Also the routine Spring clean of my apartment... But just cause spring was one of my favorite seasons when i lived in Canada here are some images that simply make me smile.

Happy St. Paddy's Weekend!

I first started celebrating (not sure that is the correct word) St. Patricks day in Canada. The streets were usually filled with green ...everything! My roomies and I would deck ourselves down (primarily with Dollarama merchandise) and from about 4 PM (or earlier) we would head out and drink green beer (ew). Barbadians are not as festive nor is there Dollarama.. so lets see what everyone comes up with this year...

Brunch For Two

The other morning we woke up a little late so instead of breakfast I decided to do brunch. On the menu - Country french omelette (baked right in the frying pan), brown toast, fresh strawberries and finally freshly squeezed orange juice.

So good....

This Weekend...

Take me to...

Where I can walk the endless but beautiful Champs Elysees, stroll through the Louve, admire the Eiffel Tower, feed my eyes at local markets, hunt for great antiques at flea markets, eat amaZing food at outside cafes while people watching and so much more! Ohh if only...

A Day Dedicated to Books

Today is World Book Day, one of the biggest celebrations of its kind.

Not only is the day dedicated to the privileged who can read and have books all year round but also World Book Day supports the Book Aid International who send 1/2  million books to community, public schools and libraries in 12 different sub-saharan countries in Africa. This increases access to the best quality books in some of the poorest areas of the world!

One of my goals for the new year has been to put down my computer on a night and read more books which I so love doing. Right now on my night shelf is 'The Places In Between' by Rory Stewart. It is about gentleman who physically walks across Afghanistan (from Herat to Kabal) in 2002- surviving by his wits, his knowledge of Persian dialect and Muslim customs and the kindness of strangers. Its a great read and I highly recommend it!
